Sunday Upgrade Day. I saw this beauty of one of my favorite prospects, Cliff Pu (@cliffp_8 🇨🇳🇨🇦), and had for buy it. Cliff’s blazing speed and scoring ability in juniors will hopefully give him a shot at The Show soon. Be sure to read my prior post about Cliff, which covers his career and why he started playing hockey. Have a great Sunday!
Prior bio: Yet another guy I wanted the Kings to draft and another one of my favorite players for his tenacious play is Cliff Pu @cliffp_8 -
1. Cliff is a Chinese Canadian power forward from Richmond Hill, Ontario. His parents are Chinese immigrants.
2. He was a hyper and temperamental kid, so his parents put him in hockey at the age of 5 to calm him down. Cliff was coached by legendary Hall of Famer and former @lakings and @edmontonoilers @paulcoffey77 as a youth, which was directly attributable to Cliff’s impressive skating and speed.
3. Cliff prides himself on using his speed for two-way play and models his game after Jonathan Toews and Pavel Datsyuk.
4. Because of his size, speed, and scoring ability, Cliff was a highly touted prospect who played on a star studded @londonknights team featuring @marner_93, @matthew_tkachuk, @10_cd, @maxjones98, Victor Mete, and @k.sherwoodx. He won both Memorial Cup and OHL championships in 2015-2016.
5. Cliff was drafted 69th overall by the @buffalosabres in the 2016 Entry Draft. He has since been traded to the @canes, @flapanthers, and @bluejacketsnhl organizations. He is currently playing for the @monstershockey.
You can find several awesome highlight videos of Cliff, which I watched quite a bit. His blazing speed and sniping are super impressive. Given he’s only 22, I’m hopeful he’s able to get a shot at The Show, as he’s too exciting of a player to miss.
