Dan Tormey @torms__49 -
1. “Torms” was a Chinese American goalie from Syracuse, New York. He began playing hockey at the age of 5 because his neighbor played hockey. Dan did not play goalie until his second year of Squirt.
2. From 2003-2005, Dan played in the @ushl, with 2004-2005 being his most memorable season given he backstopped the @ridertown_usa to a Clark Cup Championship and enjoyed the best save percentage in the league that season (.926).
3. From 2005-2009, Dan played for the @msumaverickshockey. Austin Lee, who was featured last week, was Dan’s understudy from 2007-2009. Dan’s college career was hindered by a freak accident in 2006, when Blake Wheeler’s skate blade sliced a tendon above Dan’s thumb. Dan’s playing time lessened when he returned from surgery.
4. Dan wore #49 as a tribute to his mother, whose birthday was April 9 and who died of lung cancer in February 2003.
5. After graduating from college with a BS in International Business, his pro career involved several tryouts and backup roles from 2009-2010 with the @readingroyals, @syracusecrunch, @toledowalleye, and @stocktonthunder. After retiring from competitive hockey, Dan now works as a sales executive for a medical device company. Primary assist to @kellyhyeo, who tipped my lil bro about Dan!
