Here’s an autographed upgrade for a guy I played a few games against during my college years and in beer league. Daniel Kim @1danielkim -
1. Daniel was a huge, Korean American power forward who immigrated to Los Angeles at the age of 3.
2. He was captivated by Gretzky’s shiny aluminum stick as a kid and quickly became addicted to hockey. While several @lakings were role models, Daniel looked up to fellow Korean heritage players Jim Paek and Richard Park the most.
3. He played for the @bay_city_bombers in the @wshlhockey_ and was invited to try out for the WCHL Long Beach Ice Dogs. While he was cut in the first two camps, the Ice Dogs eventually extended an offer when another player was serving a suspension. In 2002-03, Daniel made his pro debut playing 16 games for the Ice Dogs and notched 19 PIMs.
4. Thereafter, Daniel played parts of 3 seasons with the @echlhockey @bakersfieldcondors, totaling 19 PIMs in 7 games. While playing for the Condors, Daniel also had a day job as the organization’s hockey operations manager.
5. Since retiring from pro, Daniel has been involved in minor hockey at various levels the past 16 years. He is currently an AA coach in Southern California for the Junior Kings and a high school hockey coach for the South Bay Stingrays. I have met Daniel in person, and he is truly a good and humble guy. Not only is he a knowledgeable and patient coach, he is an excellent father (whose kid has serious wheels)!
Fun fact: While with the Condors, the media occasionally mistook Dan for @fuji44!
