Jalen Luypen @jalenluypen -
1. Jalen is an electric and fun Japanese Canadian forward from Salmon Arm, BC.
2. His grandfather is the beloved Roy Sakaki, who is known as Mr. Hockey in Salmon Arm for his admirable contributions to the hockey community as a referee, coach, mentor, and ambassador for over 50 years.
3. Following in his grandpa’s footsteps, Jalen is quick to help others. In 2019, he teamed with @kidscancercare for the “Shave Your Lid for a Kid” initiative, where he raised over $5,000 and shaved his marvelous flow for the cause.
4. Jalen was a longshot to play in the @whlhockey as the 180th pick in the 2017 Bantam Draft. However, a strong final season with the @okanaganhockey and an exceptional camp earned him a spot on the @edmoilkings’ roster in 2018-2019.
5. Jalen has not looked back and has steadily improved the past 3 seasons in Edmonton. He continues to exceed expectations with his positive mindset. He currently has 10 points in 10 games for the @edmoilkings.
No doubt, this kid is destined for great things in hockey and is an extraordinary human being for the game like his beloved grandfather. If there were a “Heart” attribute in @easportsnhl’s NHL 21, this guy would have a 99 for both his on and off ice work. Wish him the best!
