Sunday Upgrade: Today’s upgrade is for one of my favorite players for his grit and “never say die” attitude, Justyn Gurney (@jgurnz). Justyn’s junior career has ended with the @everett_silvertips but his hockey career continues, as he has committed to @wilfridlaurieruni next season. Great move to build a career outside of hockey while continuing to play! Be sure to check out my prior post on Justyn, which was one of my first.

Prior post bio: Now’s time for one of my favorite current Junior players since his gritty playing style is similar to mine back in the day. Justyn Gurney @jgurnz - 

1. Justyn was drafted by the @whlhitmen in the 2015 @westernhockeyleague draft and broke in as a 16-year old. 

2. He thrives in the underdog role as he recalled always being relegated to the “B” team in his minor years but then being selected for the top teams the following year. 

3. In 2018-2019, he was cut by the @reginapatshockey after playing in only one game and felt he lost the love for hockey while also missing his family. He rediscovered his love for the game after returning to play for the @surreyeagles. 

4. He has an older brother @braedengurney who played in the PJHL. 

5. Justyn is currently committed to the @bchlexpress as we all await the decision on whether there will be a season. Here’s hoping this guy can have a monster season to finish his junior career!
