It’s not every day that you can show off a grail find. This 70-year old, vintage card is the first one to ever feature the great Eng Kai Geong aka “Larry Kwong,” the electrifying son of Chinese immigrants who was born in Vernon, BC. Larry broke the color barrier in the @nhl and was the first player of Asian descent to play in the league when he suited up for a game for the @nyrangers against the @canadiensmtl on March 13, 1948. Be sure to read my longer bio for the “China Clipper” in the previous post featuring one of his autographed cards. Interestingly, in 1951, the year this card was issued, Larry led the Valleyfield Braves and the entire Quebec Senior League in scoring.
This is definitely an important piece of Asian American history, and it’s a card I’ll never let go of.
