Taking you into the weekend with Yao Shi -
1. Yao was a tall (5’10!) female goaltender from Harbin, China.
2. In 2007, she was 1 of 6 Chinese players who trained in Canada with teams from the now defunct WWHL. The purpose of this exchange was to grow women’s hockey in China, as there were only around 100 female players at the time.
3. Throughout her career, she represented China internationally in the World Championships and other tournament play.
4. In 2011-2012, she won a Silver medal and was named top goalie for the D1B Women’s World Championships. She won a Bronze medal in 2014-2015.
5. Yao retired from hockey in 2015 at the age of 28.
I have to say, when I received this card, I really thought I purchased a youth hockey card. I can’t believe she’s 21 in that photo!
