With the @NHL Entry Draft upon us, it’s only fitting that I feature the first South Asian @nhlpa agent, Harkie Singh -
1. Harkie was a rugged, stay at home Indo Canadian defenseman from Toronto. His dad was a field hockey player in India and decided to introduce his son to the frozen Canadian sport after Harkie was born to help him assimilate into Western culture.
2. When Harkie was drafted 192nd overall by the @ohlbulls in the 1995 @ohl_hockey Draft, his parents were unfamiliar with the league.
3. Harkie realized a pro career was unlikely for him, as he was used sparingly in his 4 seasons of junior with the Bulls, Ajax Axemen, @princegeorgecougars, @vernonvipersbchl, @windsorspitfireshockey, @canesojhl, and Thunder Bay Thunder Cats.
4. Harkie found his break when he was a 20 year old student at @uottawa and applied for a scouting job with the @ny_islanders, then owned by Charles Wang and Sanjay Kumar in 2000. He worked as a scout for the Islanders for 6 years, followed by 2 years with the @canucks.
5. Harkie became the first South Asian NHLPA agent in 2020, and he is now the President of @lseagency.
