Next is the first player of Asian descent to play a regular season game for the @buffalosabres, Jacob Bryson @jbrys18 -
1. Jacob is an underrated, smooth skating and poised, puck moving Korean Canadian defenseman from London, Ontario. He is cousins with @ny_islanders Korean Canadian prospect @mitchvandesompel, who was previously featured by this account.
2. After starring for his hometown @londonjrknights, he was passed over in the @westernhockeyleague draft, so he played for the @lc_boyshockey and the @nvriverratshockey in 2014-15, totaling eight goals and 19 assists in 41 games with the two squads.
3. Jacob then entered the @ushl in 2015-16, where he led the @omahalancers defense in scoring with three goals and 28 assists in 56 games while amassing 36 penalty minutes. His impressive play led to his being selected for the league’s Top Prospects Game and All-Rookie First Team.
4. He then played 3 years at @friarshockey, where he was an assistant captain for two years and notched an impressive 73 points in 121 career @ncaaicehockey games. He was a Hockey East First Team All-Star and an NCAA East Second Team All-American in 2019. He was also a Hockey East Second Team All-Star in 2018.
5. The Sabres drafted him 99th overall in the 2017 @nhl Entry Draft. He began his pro career in the @theahl in 2019-20 with the @amerkshockey, where he tallied 27 points in 61 games. Since then, he has been a mainstay and solid contributor on the Sabres’ blueline. Jacob’s vision, skating, and dependability make him a valuable defenseman who will enjoy a long NHL career.
I have been waiting for this card, which is his first, so I’ll probably upgrade whenever an autographed card becomes available!
Thanks to superfan @matty_mann for the tip on Jacob’s background!
