1. Ty is a big, solid, Japanese Canadian, defensive stalwart from Belleville, Ontario, but he spent his youth in the beautiful Comox, BC. He has a twin sister, Tia, who was a standout goalie for @qu_wih.
2. Ty’s junior career began in the @westernhockeyleague playing for the @princegeorgecougars, where he starred as a defenseman. In 2007-08, he was traded by the Cougars to the @mjwarriors; at the end of the season, he led all WHL defensemen in assists (51) and points (67). Altogether, he notched 161 points over his 4-year career in the W.
3. Ty’s hulking size and impressive skill promoted the @sanjosesharks to draft in the first round (16th overall) in the 2006 @nhl Entry Draft.
4. Ty’s North American pro career was mostly spent in the minors with stints for the @tblightning and @ny_islanders.
5. In 2013, Ty went to Europe, where he has played in Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania, and Poland. He is now playing professionally in Australia for the @melbournemustangsaihl.
